Abstract Title: The Future Demands the Youth: Youth Leadership in the Frontlines of the Climate Crisis

Biography:

Sophia Long is an internationally recognized youth activist and incoming freshman at the University of Chicago. She is the Co-founder of Science Humanitarian International, a nonprofit organization delivering STEM, health, and climate education to underserved students in over 20 countries. A 2024 Diana Award recipient and UN Global Goals Ambassador, Sophia has led global humanitarian initiatives and briefed the U.S. Senate and House on critical issues including health equity and climate resilience. She also co-hosts the Science Humanitarian Podcast, where she engages global thought leaders including the 48th President of Costa Rica and a National Geographic photojournalist - in impactful conversations on climate and social justice.

Research Interest:

Sophia Long’s research interests lie at the intersection of climate science, public health, and science education. She is particularly focused on the role of climate resilience in global health equity and the impact of education as a tool for environmental and social change. Sophia explores community-driven approaches to climate adaptation, youth engagement in sustainability initiatives, and the integration of STEM education in underserved regions to promote long-term environmental stewardship. Her work also includes studying policy pathways that connect grassroots innovation with systemic solutions for climate justice.
